September is a month of change. It feels like new beginnings to me. There is something magical about this season and what it brings to our family. The weather is getting cooler and we are preparing for winter, soaking up every last piece of sunshine and warmth.
It is the start of school and sets the routine for the rest of the year. I love this time of year, and although it is much different that previous years, we are finding our way enjoying the simple things.
This month started off heavy with the decision to send our kids back to school. I struggled with this and analyzed our decision over and over again. We factored in every piece of information we could. It was very difficult for me.
Ultimately we decided to go with the hybrid model. This means the kids go to in-person class 2 days a week and 3 days they are home doing virtual school.
Honestly this is kind of a perfect scenario for me because I love working with the kids, spending the days with them, and having reading time together. It comes easy to me to be home. I have a Masters degree in education so this is a natural transition for us.
That doesn’t mean that our days go perfect. We have days where I am overwhelmed and frustrated. I have had to shift my priorities, especially for work.
Those days the kids have my complete attention and I have had to find different times to work, like right now, as I sit here on a Sunday morning to a quiet house and a hot cup of coffee. I am grateful that our situation allows us to do this and I know that is not the case for everyone.
Our routine is constantly evolving but I feel like we are figuring out how it all fits and what works best for all us.
Some of my favorite moments from the month was going apple picking and exploring locally as much as possible. There are so many things to do in Rochester and we are taking full advantage of have local adventures.
One of the perks of virtual school was a quick trip to Schutts Apple Mill to pick up some warm fried cakes for breakfast. I know this time is tough but I will never forget these moments I have with the kids.
They are such a gift to me. I never thought there would be a time when all 5 of us would be home together for any extended period of time. Although the circumstances are not the best I am finding the silver lining of it all.
We also spent this last weekend on an awesome day trip around Rochester. It wasn’t big or fancy, we went on a hike and ended up dipping our toes in Lake Ontario. I think it was the perfect way to end the month.
September 30th is also the 4 year anniversary of Five for the Road. You can read what I shared last year in my post about 3 Years Blogging.
It was also a big year for behind the scenes work. Much like 2020 is for a lot of people, I refocused on my priorities and what I want to share with you. I discovered things that are no longer a priority, and moved on to the content that can really add value to my readers.
I am always grateful for you and that you take the time to read my posts, share my articles, and be part of this community. I would not be where I am today if it wasn’t for your support. Thank you!!
