When planning a Disneyland vacation one of the first things you need to decide is where to stay.
Disneyland is located in Anaheim California and has two theme parks: Disneyland and Disney California Adventure. There is also a shopping and dining area called Downtown Disney.
If this is your first time to Disneyland you will discover that it is much different than the Walt Disney World resort in Orlando, Florida.
The Disneyland Resort is much smaller and more compact.
All of the theme parks, as well as Downtown Disney, are within walking distance of the Disney hotels on-site as well as a number of off-site good neighbor hotels.
Deciding which is best for you will come down to personal preference and the needs of the group you are traveling with.
On our visit we stayed at the Courtyard Marriott Anaheim Theme Park Entrance and were really happy with the location, on-site amenities, and rooms that fit our family of five.

Do you need to stay on-site at Disneyland?
Staying on-site during your Disneyland vacation is not as important or beneficial as it is at Walt Disney World.
There are three Disneyland resort hotels. They are Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel, Disneyland Hotel, and Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel. All are within walking distance to the Disneyland theme parks.
The closest hotels to Disneyland are along Harbor Blvd. Most are within a short walk to the park main entrance.
The Courtyard Marriott is a great option for large families because it was within a 10 minute walk and has great amenities.
Whether you are visiting Disneyland or Disney California Adventure Park, or both, Courtyard Marriott is one of the best hotels for families.
Best Disneyland Good Neighbor Hotel: Courtyard Anaheim Theme Park Entrance
We think the Courtyard Anaheim Theme Park Entrance is the best family hotel near Disneyland because it has great amenities and is a short walk to the parks.
There are 2 Courtyard Marriott Anaheim hotels that appear when you search. They are the Courtyard Anaheim Theme Park Entrance and the Courtyard Marriott Anaheim Resort Convention.
The theme park entrance is the one you want to choose if you are looking for the on-site water park and being a short walk from the park.
Where is the Courtyard Anaheim Theme Park Entrance?
The Courtyard Anaheim Theme Park Entrance is located half a mile from the entrance to the Disneyland parks. It took us about 9-12 minutes to walk from our hotel room to the security check at Disneyland.
Things We Loved About Staying at the Courtyard Marriott Anaheim Theme Park Entrance
The Courtyard Marriott Anaheim Theme Park Entrance is one of our favorite hotels because it offers a lot for families.
The guests rooms all fit up to six people. They are the standard rooms and have 2 queen beds, twin bunk beds, a shower/tub combo, and a stand alone shower.
They also have spacious drawers and cabinets, a coffee maker, and microwave.
The rooms come equipped with complimentary wi-fi and some have views of Disneyland park. At night we had a fireworks view and could see the nightly shows.
There is an on-site fitness center, the Bistro dining option, a gift shop, and an on-site water park.
Disneyland Hotel with Bunk Beds
The Courtyard Anaheim Theme Park Entrance is one of the few Disneyland hotels with bunk beds. This is a huge perk when traveling with a large family.
As a family of five having bunk beds means we all have a comfortable place to sleep at the end of the night.
There is also a small sitting area with table that allowed the five of us to spread out a bit when hanging out in the room.
Courtyard Anaheim Theme Park Entrance Water Park
The Courtyard Anaheim Water Park is one of the biggest perks of staying at the hotel. There is a hot tub, an outdoor swimming pool, water slides, and a splash pad with a drench bucket.
The actual pool is not a very large pool but the water slides and splash area make up for it. We loved spending time at the water park.
Before you check-in you can go to the website to reserve your time at the water park. Towels are provided and the pools are heated.
I was a bit concerned about the noise of the waterpark when we were in our hotel room but the windows blocked it out very well.
Location is Perfect for a Mid-Day Break
We like to rope drop the theme parks. Rope drop is when you arrive before park open to be one of the first people in the parks.
When we do this we often like to return to our hotel for a mid-day break and then return to the parks in the evening.
The Courtyard Anaheim had a perfect location to do this. The time it took us to walk back to our hotel was about 15 minutes. It was really nice to have a short walk and take a break.
On-Site Food Options After a Long Day at the Parks
On our way home from the parks we stopped at the Bistro and ordered pizza to take back to the room. I really appreciated the convenience of having food options on site.
Disneyland Good Neighbor Hotel that Fits a Family of Five
Having a room that fits our growing family of five has become a big priority when planning our trips.
We could have squished into a smaller hotel room, but this offered great space for our family, especially staying 6 nights.
For an extended stay we try to avoid the pull-out sofa option and the Courtyard exceeded our expectations.
