Are you looking for Lake George family lodging that has space for a family and offers on-site amenities? Then you should check out The Lodges at Cresthaven. It is a great family resort in Lake George, NY that is perfect to visit anytime of year.
As we were nearing the end of 2020, we wanted to plan a December weekend getaway from our home in Rochester, NY. We knew we would stay closer to home and wanted to travel in New York state.
We started looking at planning a weekend in Lake George, NY. Lake George was under a 5 hour drive from our home and we could enjoy outdoor activities.
I started looking for resorts in Lake George that were good for families and also open in the winter season. Most of Lake George is seasonal but we were able to find a great place to stay at the Lodges at Cresthaven.
Best Lake George Family Lodging: The Lodges at Cresthaven
The Lodges at Cresthaven had everything we were looking for in a winter getaway. It had space for our family to do virtual school, a full kitchen, views of Lake George, and were following all of the safety protocols for traveling during 2020.
Where is the Lodge at Cresthaven Located?
The Lodges at Cresthaven is located about 2 miles from Lake George village. It is not walking distance from the village but it is a short drive to go into town.
We found it easy to get in and out of the village but we visited during the off-season. I would assume the traffic is busier during the summer months and it may take a bit more time.
Lodge at Cresthaven Accommodations
There are a few options for rentals at the Lodges at Cresthaven. They are the Deluxe Hotel Room (3 people), One Bedroom Lodge (4 people), Traditional Lodge (6 people), Full Oak Tree Lodge (6 people).
We stayed at the Oak Tree Lodge and it was incredible. The lodge has 2 bedrooms with king size beds, a private bathroom for each, and a sitting area with full kitchen.
There is also a balcony overlooking Lake George that was probably my favorite part of the entire place.
Visiting the Lodges at Cresthaven during the off-season has its pros and cons. The biggest perk being the cost. During the winter season you can rent these for as low as $300.00/night. We booked a special that was 2 nights, 3rd night half off.
If you are planning an in-season visit be prepared to pay more for your stay. The Lodges are not exactly budget friendly but you do get a lot of amenities that may make the price worth it for your family.
Amenities at the Lodges at Cresthaven Resort
The amenities at the Lodges at Cresthaven are really nice and if you wanted to you could stay at the resort for your entire vacation.
There is an indoor/outdoor pool that is open from April to November as well as a private beach. Guests can play basketball, shuffle board, volleyball, and use the horseshoe pit.
Rooms have internet access, dvd players, and some have washer and dryers. There is also an on-site playground, arcade, and daily activities(seasonal).
Some of the daily activities are bonfires at the beach, ice cream social, and treasure hunts. There are also water activities like kayaking, boating, and fishing.
The Boathouse Restaurant is also open seasonally from April to November. I have heard great reviews of this restaurant and wish it was open during our stay.
Since we visited in December a lot of the seasonal activities were not available. We were able to use the basketball court and shuffle board, take walks to the beach, and play on the playground.
It is important to decide what you are looking for during your stay. The cost of our stay was way less than a summer visit and we knew things would be closed.
We really enjoyed the quietness of the resort and having most of the place to ourselves.
Should You Book a Stay at the Lodges at Cresthaven
Every family vacation is personal to the individual needs of each family but I think the Lodges at Cresthaven is a great pick for a family trip.
For us we were looking for a quiet getaway and that is exactly what we got. Every morning we would start our day with coffee on the balcony overlooking Lake George. The kids would do a little bit of school and then we would take a walk to the beach.
It was cold but it was really nice to take in the beautiful views and be together. After our walk we would warm up by the fire place at the Oak Tree Lodge, finish school and have lunch.
Then the younger kids would go outside to the playground or basketball court while my oldest finished her school work. It was a nice rhythm for the day.
For dinner we would order take-out from in town, remember a lot of restaurants are open seasonally and this was a bit tricky to find places, but it worked for us. We could have easily picked up groceries to make dinner at the room.
Honestly it was the peaceful retreat we were really looking for.
I think a summer visit would be a very different type of vacation. Summer is full of activities and other guests. The weather is better and you can fully utilize all the perks of the resort.
We missed out on a lot of amenities, but gained a lot of family time without anyone else around.
We would love to go back again to experience the Lodges at Cresthaven during the summer months to fully enjoy everything the resort offers.
The Lodges at Cresthaven is a great choice for Lake George family lodging that really is a perfect family vacation in any season of the year.
