Finding a hotel in Reykjavik that comfortably fits a family of five is harder than it sounds. Most European hotels are sized for couples and small families- two double beds and a bathroom that fits everyone is not a given. When we were planning our Iceland stopover as part of our 12-day Europe trip, this was the thing I worried about most.
Hotel Odinsve solved that problem completely. We stayed in the two-bedroom apartment at the Odinsve Hotel Apartments, a 4-star property in the heart of Reykjavik, and it was one of the best hotel choices we made on the entire trip.
Central location, spacious rooms, within walking distance of everything we wanted to see, and a price point that felt reasonable for Iceland where accommodation costs are notoriously high. Here is our honest review of Hotel Odinsve Reykjavik for families.

Hotel Odinsve Reykjavik Review- My Experience
It is important to know that Hotel Odinsve is actually two locations. There is the Hotel Odinsve and the Hotel Odinsve Apartments (Odinsve Hotel Apartments).
We stayed at the Odinsve Hotel Apartments. They are located across from the hotel and on the main shopping street. Both locations are convenient to the local activities and attractions.
All guests check-in at the Hotel Odinsve and the front desk will assist you with finding your apartment location. This was a bit confusing upon arrival because I didn’t realize the apartments were located across the city. It is a small area and not complicated to walk to with luggage, I just wasn’t aware of the logistics at first.
Having an apartment when traveling as a family of five is such a gift. The spacious rooms and dining area make it a lot easier to provide downtime for everyone in the family.
How to Get From Reykjavik Airport to Hotel Odinsve
The two options for getting to Reykjavik city centre is to take a bus from the airport or drive/rent a car. If you are driving be sure to do your research on where to park as well as directions.
I recommend booking a shuttle bus from the airport to the centre of Reykjavik and then make the short walk to your hotel. We booked through FlyBus and it was very easy and well marked so we could get where we need to go.
Attractions Close to the Hotel Odinsve
The Hotel Odinsve is minutes’ walk to the Harpa Concert Hall, Lutheran Hallgrimskirkja Parish Church, City Center, National Museum of Iceland Solfar Sculpture (Stainless-Steel Sun Voyager sculpture), numerous gift shop locations, as well as great food options for the whole family.
If you are hoping to visit the Blue Lagoon you will need to reserve transportation. It is a short drive from Reykjavik but is not within walking distance. The Perlan Museum is a kid-friendly attraction we included in our visit and worth checking out. It is about a 25-minute walk so be prepared if you choose to walk it. Uber is also available in the city.

Hotel Odinsve Apartments
The Odinsve hotel is a 4-star hotel that offers rooms and apartments to their guests.
We stayed in the 2 Bedroom apartment and it was a great choice for our stay in Reykjavik. The rooms have 2 twin beds or they could be pushed together for 1 queen. There was also a pull-out sofa, a private bathroom and family room.
The apartments offer 10 apartments that come with flat-screen TV, kitchenette with microwave, stove top, and refrigerator. All locations are a short walk to family-friendly attractions. I was really happy that the harbour and popular tourist attractions were within walking distance to the hotel.
The modern rooms and spacious accommodations made the Odinsve Hotel Apartments an ideal place for our family. Check out Hotel Odinsve Apartment nightly rates.
Amenities at the Hotel Odinsve
Guests can dine at the on-site restaurant Snaps. Snaps is fine dining and we did not have time in our itinerary to try it. Free wi-fi, a 24 hour business centre, and a safety deposit box is available to guests as well.
One of the things the hotel does not have is a swimming pool or hot tub. When researching family-friendly hotels I often look for places that have a swimming pool or hot tub but hotels in cities don’t typically have the space for them. There is also not a fitness center at the hotel.
These were not deal breakers for us. We spent all of our time exploring the city and getting lots of steps in. If these amenities are important to you, this hotel might not be a good choice for your family.
We arrived early in the morning, before check-in, and were happy to learn the hotel offered luggage storage. Concierge service can assist you with this and direct you with where to go while you wait for your room.
Is it Worth Staying at Hotel Odinsve Reykjavik
We loved our stay at Odinsve Hotel Apartments. I though it was a great value and great location. The central location and being within a 10-minute walk to everything we wanted to see made it a perfect place for us.
We visited Iceland in June so walking around the city center was easy! The weather was fairly mild for the things we wanted to see and do.
This was our first visit to Iceland. I had no idea what to expect or where to stay. I was really happy with the location. Once we walked around for half the day we became familiar with the area and it was very easy to navigate.
The location felt safe too. We had a 3:00am flight and walking to our shuttle stop at that time wasn’t a concern. It helped that there was only 2 hours of night during our June visit!
The rooms were clean and basic. I think they were pretty standard for what to expect in hotel rooms in Europe. The bedding gave me an “IKEA vibe” but were comfortable and warm. The rooms had blackout curtains so we could sleep even when it was light out.
I liked having a refrigerator because it allowed us to stop at the local grocery store for snacks and drinks. If we were staying for a longer trip we would have taken advantage of buying groceries to save money.
The best hotels are the ones you would stay in again. If we ever have the opportunity to visit Reykjavík again we would definitely stay at the Odinsve Apartments.
