BOMA restaurant at animal kingdom

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge is one of the most beautiful on-site Disney World resorts to explore and on a recent visit we decided to spend our morning there and dine at the breakfast buffet Boma-Flavors of Africa.

The breakfast buffet is not a character meal like Ohana at the Polynesian Resort or Topolino’s at Riviera Resort, but it is a great option for guests looking for a breakfast buffet and not interested in meeting characters.

We made reservations at Boma for our rest day at Disney. When we do this I plan a later brunch so that the cost of the meal covers breakfast and lunch. It works well and saves us a bit of money on an additional meal.

Atmosphere

The atmosphere of the restaurant is busy and the cast members keep things moving but we never felt rushed and had plenty of time to enjoy our meal.

It was a really nice time for our family to sit down, try new foods, and experience a slower day during our Disney vacation.

Where is Boma-Flavors of Africa Restaurant

Boma-Flavors of Africa is located at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, not Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park.

One of the reasons we waited so long to try Boma was the location. If you are not staying at Animal Kingdom Lodge it is not very easy to get to.

It is doable but takes a bit of planning. The easiest but most expensive way is to call a drive service like Uber/Lyft.

We didn’t want to spend the money so we relied on Disney transportation. Our resort was All Star Sports which meant we were relying on buses to get from our resort to Animal Kingdom Lodge.

Disney buses do not provide direct transportation between resorts. They go between resorts and theme parks. If you are planning this you need to block off enough time to get to a theme park and then to Animal Kingdom Lodge.

This is how we did it:

  1. Took a bus to Animal Kingdom (Theme Park) from All Star Sports
  2. From Animal Kingdom took a bus to Animal Kingdom Lodge
  3. To get back from breakfast we did the same thing but backwards.

I would not recommend taking a bus to Magic Kingdom and transferring. It is the busiest and furthest park from Animal Kingdom Lodge.

Overall the buses were not as bad as I thought they would be. It took about 35 minutes. I would leave 45-60 minutes before your reservation to be on the safe side. Better to be early than late!

Pricing

Adults are $39.00 and children (under 9) are $23.00 Boma does accept the Disney Dining plan as one credit. Breakfast hours are 7:30am-11:30am and then they close until 5:00pm when they open for dinner.

Food

I thought the food was great! All five of us found something different to try and really enjoyed it.

There are so many different options and I love that guests can try something new they may have never tried along with familiar favorites.

There is a meat carving station, lot of different pastries, muffins, and bagels. Fruit, pancakes, Mickey & Simba waffles, eggs, and sausage.

There is also a can’t miss French toast bread pudding that is absolutely delicious. Be sure to try some of the African inspired dishes like the Turkey bobotie-a South African quiche.

I tried a little of everything and felt the offerings were worth the cost. I loved that they had an oatmeal station because that is my go-to at home and my kids enjoyed the yogurt parfaits. Even the pickiest eaters will find something they like.

My Review

Overall I felt like Boma was a good value. Sit down dining can be expensive at Disney World, and this is, but it offers lots of options and a nice atmosphere to enjoy a meal.

Animal Kingdom Lodge is such a beautiful place to explore and I highly recommend walking around after your meal. There is a gift shop with unique Disney items as well as Savanah views of the animals outside.

I was really happy we finally got to try Boma. It was a great breakfast buffet at Disney World that was perfect for our day off from the parks.
